EPA Announces Whole of Agency Approach to Addressing PFAS

On October 18 the EPA formalized its plan to address the emerging PFAS issue by announcing its “PFAS Strategic Roadmap” which details and summarizes its planned actions starting this year and running through 2024. Amongst the highlights:

  • Setting a 2023 final rule deadline to regulate PFOS and PFOA in drinking water and designate the two compounds as hazardous substances.
  • The three-year action plan also pledges to provide updated research by fall of 2023 on the available methods for disposing of or destroying PFAS through landfills, thermal treatment and deep-well injection.
